Book Binding
First I have fold 24 pieces of paper including the 1 piece of construction paper. Then I put each white five stalks papers in groups of five , which you will end up with one group of four then you put the fold construction paper in that group. Next you mark each 3/4 " , 2 3/4 " , 6 1/4 ,8 1/4 " in the signature . After that put punch holes in each group of signatures with a needle tool. After that you take a ruler and mark the measurements on the spine 1" , 3" , 6 1/2" , 8 1/2 " then punch hole down the middle of your spine.
Next the book cover , first you need to get two pieces of Matt board and laid out the material so that it is a 1/4" gap between the center pieces where the spine and cover meet. Next cut to make sure there's 1 inch on each side. Gluing the cover , First to fold each comer at 90 degree angle and glue down using wheat pasted then you glue the edges.
make sure you make holes in spine.
End pages , first you need two water color paper and paint a design you like then punch holes in like in the pages and fold them in half. Next you glue it to the inside of your cover.
Sewing the signatures , Don't tie the string to the needle and start in middle of signature
after do with that you can customized it so I decided to paint on it with something that went with my cover design.
Collagraph project
We are making prints and these are my two test plates. I tried different swirls pattern , dots , zigzag with the glue. I cut the top layer in two spots which one of them I put glue over to see what that does . Plate two I layered a screen/ veal like material and yarn, crochet. Plate two I lacquer and now I have started to print.
Plate two looked some what bad when I did the relief that's why I did four . The two intaglio turn out better. Than for plate one I did two of each print.
Since I have done my test plate time to get started on my final plate. The I ideas I wanted to do first are Sheep , fish's tail.
Now that I have tested different plate I'm thinking about a bird's wing or a fish's tail.
The thing I had troubles printing it clearly with is the fabric I did on plate two but I want to try lace to see what that does.
I decide for my final plate to do a fish tail in a fishing net which , the net was kind of hard to do. I did had a great idea that sort of worked. I carved the outline of the body except for fins and tail which , I used thin string. Than I put lots of glue in the middle and painted it on with a brush and used the end of the brush to make half circles and that's how I made scales.
I finally lacquer it and will show prints later. Printing Five Intaglio of my fish tail: The first and second didn't print right one was too much paint and one was too little. The other were ok.
Next I will print five reliefs : I tried not to wash off the previous as much but either way I still seemed to get others colors in them depending on when I printed them. My last print I did black and white and it must of have too much paint.
Value project
Reference ,practice picture , geometric shapes , and trace paper
|
Start by picking a picture/ subject which is a hands holding a rose. Next you use a ratio then mapping out size and positioning of my drawing . Mess up the mapping it out the first time .but then I had the two hands too close to each other progress -I got one hand ans top of the rose map out right and I got an idea to use trace paper to move over the other hand. I decide to color the finger nails and the stem of the rose to make you draw your attention to different areas instead of just the rose bub itself. Also instead of just black background like photo I decide to fade the black around the subject. |
Final project
Painting a breeze using dots and a green background using circles.
Sketch of my idea : Big green circle in the back ground and fill in empty space between them black /grey with blue dot which is the breeze. Tried using the rim of the cup and put a paper towl on top of it, which was like a stamp. Decide to use paint brush after tracing final circles. Colors that I have paint are too dark so it hard to see the value. Going to go back through and touch it up. The touch up helped a lot. Had a problem with what to do with the empty spaces between the cicrles so , I add brown to get that green/ brown earthy feel to it. Like it would be in nature. |
